“We believe in the kind of talks that would yield positive results in line with interests of the Iraqi people and stabilize the government in the country,” Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here.

After a formal request from the Iraqi and American officials, Iran has agreed in principle to enter into a fresh round of talks on Iraq, he said on the sidelines of a meeting with a group of Basijis (volunteer forces).

Asked about the timing of the proposed talks, Mottaki said the dates would be announced after consultations with appropriate authorities.

To a question whether issues other than Iraq would be discussed in the talks, Mottaki said, “any issues somehow related to Iraq would be discussed.”

About the detained Iranian diplomats, the minister said that consultations are underway with the Iraqi officials on the issue.

“We hope the problem will be solved as soon as possible and the remaining diplomats in the US captivity too would be released,” Mottaki said.
