Jammu : Security forces, including the army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, Friday unearthed a huge arms cache in a remote mountainous area of Reasi district in the Jammu region.
“On receipt of a specific input, during a routine area domination patrol, about the existence of a cache of arms and ammunition on the higher reaches of Lapridhar, about 150 km north of Jammu city, a joint operation was launched in conjunction with a police party,” defence apokesman Lt. Col. R.K. Palta told IANS.
He said that on a thorough search of the area, where the existence of the cache had been indicated, security forces unearthed the arms which were concealed in a rock cave, within a dense forest.
“During a thorough search, a large quantity of arms and ammunition, including three Under Barrel Grenade Launchers (UBGL), one AK-47 magazine, three Chinese grenades, two pistol magazines, four 14.7 mm cartridges and 47 7.62m cartridges were recovered,” said Lt. Col. Palta.
He said no arrests were made from the site as the cache was not manned at the time of the operation. A case in this regard has also been registered with the Arnas police station in Reasi district.
