Ramallah : The final communiqu{ of the Annapolis peace conference would ensure Israel’s security, said Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert Sunday.
Olmert was speaking during a routine cabinet session in which he reviewed with his ministers the outcome of the recent US-sponsored Middle East peace conference.
He added that the final communiqu{, which envisioned a settlement with the Palestinians, stated that the international roadmap, with all its stages, should be implemented.
As per the first stage of the roadmap, Israel shall stop Jewish settlement activity in the West Bank and remove existing settlements, while the Palestinian side shall dismantle radical organizations and groups and impose the rule of law on all Palestinian cities.
Olmert claimed that the main issue that was on the agenda of the Annapolis conference was the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab countries, calling for immediate steps to meet such an end.
During the Annapolis summit, the Palestinians and Israelis agreed to launch negotiations for a treaty, resolving all outstanding issues, including all core issues without exception.
They said those “core issues” would include the thorny so-called “final-status issues” – the future of Jerusalem, borders, water, refugees, and settlements – which aborted previous attempts at a peace deal.
