Shillong : The nationwide shutdown called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Left Thursday crippled normal life in Congress-ruled Meghalaya.
In capital Shillong, 27 BJP workers were arrested for obstructing public transport and forcing shopkeepers to down their shutters.
Almost all government establishments and educational institutions were closed in the state capital. Traffic was thin on the roads.
The National People’s Party, the BJP, the CPI and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People supported the shutdown.
