Lucknow : Five people were murdered in two separate incidents in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut district late Sunday, police said Monday.
Three members of a family were killed in Tekri village of the Mawana area after a dispute over watering of fields, while a woman and her paramour were beaten to death in the Jaani area of Meerut, around 450 km from here, a police official said.
Senior Superintendent of Police-Meerut K. Satyanarayan told IANS that Karan Singh (65), his wife Bala (62) and son Prabhat (2) were beaten to death by Digambar, Om Prakash and some other relatives after a dispute over watering of fields erupted within the family.
In another incident, Menaka (32) and Akash (21) were beaten to death by a group of villagers. Menaka, wife of Naresh, had eloped with Akash last night but the couple was caught and lynched by the villagers, police said.
The assailants in both the incidents were on the run and efforts were on to arrest them, police said.
