Thiruvananthapuram : The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has sanctioned Rs.16.26 crore for modernisation of sports infrastructure at its centres across Kerala, an SAI official said here Monday.
The money would be used for construction of a paddling pool and transformation of the existing boat house with state-of-art facilities at the Water Sports Training Centre of SAI, located in Alappuzha.
Renovation of the state’s only velodrome in LNCPE, Karyavattom near here, besides a new warmup track, a pavilion, transformation of the multipurpose training hall and construction of a new guest house are the major works to be implemented at SAI-LNCPE, Thiruvananthapuram.
“Once the expansion programmes are over here at the LNCPE, the national institute will become the Centre of Excellence in the field of sports and physical education,” G. Kishore, principal-LNCPE and director-SAI Kerala Region told reporters here.
Governor of Chhattisgarh, Sekhar Dutt will launch the scheme for modernization of infrastructures at SAI-LNCPE here Wednesday.
The Central Public Works Department will be implementing the works in the respective centres of SAI, on a timeframe basis.
