“It seems that a false propaganda is being nurtured by the major opposition parties in the country. They are adopting unusual manners to express their opposition on this issue,” Dikshit said without naming the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP has vehemently opposed foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail.

The chief minister said that her government is in the process of amending the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act.

“We are keen to implement it as early as possible as it is going to benefit the youth, farmers, traders and consumers,” said Dikshit.

She was speaking at a seminar on FDI organised by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh College in Delhi.

Dikshit urged the intelligentsia to come forward to clear “apprehensions” on the FDI.

The Congress-led UPA government announced 51 percent FDI in multi-brand retail in September, in the face of massive opposition from most political parties and traders.
