‘IK Gujral was a messenger of secularism’

Aligarh: “Republic of India’s 12th Prime Minister Dr. I. K. Gujral was one of the most important messenger of secularism in post-independent India,” said Mrs. Saba Khan, the Registrar of the Jamia Urdu Aligarh while condoling his death.

The Jamia Urdu Aligarh held a condolence meeting to mourn the death of the former Prime Minister Dr. I.K. Gujral. Elaborating on the association of Jamia Urdu with Gujral, Mrs. Khan pointed out that the Jamia Urdu had awarded him Daktur-e-Adab (D. Litt.) Award in 1990 in recognition of his services to the nation and Urdu.

OSD of Jamia Urdu, Farhat Ali Khan said, “I. K. Gujral was not only a politician but an admired leader of masses. India has lost a humanist”.

Recalling the services of I.K. Gujral, Chairman of Mushawarati Council Prof. Razaullah Khan said, death is a natural phenomenon but when great men die, the masses lose their benefactor and its true for I. K. Gujral.

Director Jasim Mohammad said, “Gujral was the symbol of composite culture in India and we have lost our moral guide and idle”. Web Editor of the Aligarh Movement magazine, N. Jamal Ansari said, “Gujral was a fearless men who never hesitated in calling a spade, a spade. The masses have lost one of its ture sympathizer.

The meeting was held with two minute silence to pay respect to the departed soul. A resolution was passed which said that Gujral was an Urdu lover who had contributed much to its development and Jamia Urdu joins the millions in India to mourn his death.
