Amritsar: Alert troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF) Sunday recovered fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with face value of Rs.13.88 lakh near the India-Pakistan border in Amritsar sector of Punjab, officials said here.
BSF officials said a patrol team spotted a few packets lying in an agricultural field in the Mahwa area of the border belt. On scrutiny, fake currency with face value of Rs.13.88 lakh was recovered.
“The fake currency was in the form of Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 notes,” a BSF official said.
The BSF has recovered nearly Rs.25 lakh in fake currency from the international border belt in Punjab this year. It has also recovered over 30 kg of heroin this year, the statement said.
