New Delhi : A Delhi court Monday posted for March 7 the hearing on arguments on whether to summon Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde in a defamation case filed against him for his remarks linking the BJP and the RSS to terrorism.
Metropolitan Magistrate Amitabh Rawat, taking on record all evidence submitted so far in the case, fixed the date for arguments for March 7.
The court had earlier recorded the pre-summoning evidence of petitioner V.P. Kumar, alleging that Shinde had wilfully made the derogatory remarks to cause ill will and hatred among communities.
In the plea, Kumar had alleged that Shinde’s remarks were aimed at “polarising minority votes in the 2014 general elections”. He further added that Shinde has used the word “saffron as synonym of terrorism”, which is “totally absurd, wrong, mischievous and defamatory”.
“The impugned statement is not only defamatory in its natural meaning but also contains the imputation and insinuation that Hindu religion is involved in anti-national and terrorist activities,” the plea said.
Shinde during the Congress “Chintan Shivir” Jan 20 in Jaipur accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS), of conducting terror training camps and promoting “Hindu terrorism”.
