Haryana registers 98.7 percent of expected births

Chandigarh : Over 98.7 percent of the total expected births in Haryana were registered during 2012 following strict guidelines from the state’s health department, a spokesman said here Tuesday.

He said that with more effective steps being initiated in this direction, the state will soon register 100 percent births.

“In 2012, over 5.63 lakh births and 1.60 lakh deaths were registered in the state,” he stated.

He said that as per the arrangement made by the department, births in rural areas were registered at Primary Health Centres (PHCs) through Anganwadis workers and health workers.

“Therefore, people need not go anywhere to get the birth of their children registered. On getting the birth registered through health worker, the birth certificate is issued free of cost,” he pointed out.

He said that on the basis of births registered in 2012, the sex ratio in Haryana is now at 853 females as against 1,000 males. The highest sex ratio, 920 females per 1,000 males, was registered in the backward district of Mewat.
