New Delhi: The Campus Front of India Delhi unit organized a signature campaign from 5 April, 2013 at Jamia Millia Islamia University and Delhi University, demanding the Indian government to react productively on the ethnic cleansing of Muslims in Myanmar and oppression of Tamils and Muslims in Sri Lanka.
An estimated 40 people were killed and 61 wounded in the attacks on Muslims minority by majority Buddhists in Myanmar recently. And in Sri Lanka for decades the Tamil minorities are being oppressed through various forms of violence including genocide, now the minority Muslims are being target by radical Buddhist monks who prohibited them for practicing their religion.
Delhi University Campus Front Signature Campaign
Campus Front Delhi General Secretary Mehboob Sahana who was participated in the signature campaign in Jamia said that that “it’s clearly evident that attacks in Myanmar are preplanned and are lead by the Buddhist monks that too in front of the Police and security forces.”
In June -July 2012 attacks on the Rohingya Muslims in Rakhine State in Myanmar 110 people were killed and it left 120,000 people homeless.
Campus Front member, Mohamed Jabir who was present at the event in DU said, “Buddhists who are Sino-Tibetan origin are the majority in Myanmar are oppressing the minority Muslims for last few decades. The UNHCR has also reported that since 1991 their freedom of movement is limited and treated like second class citizens.”
“In case of Sri Lanka, large number of Indian origins Tamils who settled in Sri Lanka centuries back is treated unequally and as second class citizens since the independence of Sri Lanka.”
The Campus Front of India through this signature campaign is demanding the government of India to condemn these atrocities and discrimination and to take safeguard measures.
