Aligarh: The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Zameer Uddin Shah received serious injuries as he fell from his bicycle after being hit by a car bearing number UP81-AP-8802. The car driver succeeded in escaping from the scene along with the car.
The Vice Chancellor, who is using a bicycle to commuting to his office daily, was on the way to his office, when the red colour car entailing the Vice Chancellor’s bicycle hit him and tried to push him deliberately to the extreme side of the road in front of the University Guest House No. 2, very close to the Bab-e-Syed (University Gate), according to the university officials.

The Vice Chancellor was rushed to the Emergency of J. N. Medical College Hospital where after several examinations like X-ray and CT Scan, it was found that his fourth and fifth ribs had received fracture and the lower knee of his left leg was badly bruised which caused bleeding.
AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brigadier (Retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, Registrar, Group Captain (Retd.) Shahrukh Shamshad and the Proctor, Dr. Jamshed Siddiqui along with his Proctorial team rushed to the hospital after hearing the news. Vice Chancellor’s wife Mrs. Sabiha Seemi Shah also reached the hospital.
The Additional District Magistrate (City), Mr. D. S. Sachan, CO (Civil Lines) and SHO, Civil Lines Police Station also arrived at the J. N. Medical College and enquired about the incident.
The gunner of the Vice Chancellor, Irfanuddin, who was only a few steps behind the Vice Chancellor on a bicycle when the incident took place, has lodged an FIR with the Civil Lines Police Station.
It may be noted that the Vice Chancellor has launched a drive to popularize cycling within the University campus following the ban on motorcycles in all residential boys hostels of the University and he announced to use a bicycle for commuting within the University campus from August 1 last.
