Addressing a eeting of Hindi Salahakar Samiti, Soni, who also holds the portfolio of tourism, said her ministry plans to discuss the possibility of organising a Hindi seminar on Jan 10, 2009 on the occasion of World Hindi Divas.

She said the matter would be discussed with the Human Resource Development Ministry and the External Affairs Ministry.

“For the promotion of Hindi, it is necessary that one must use simple and easy words, ‘bolchal’, and try to communicate as much as possible in commonly spoken words,” Soni said.

Hindi has a special place in Indian culture and hence the culture ministry shares more responsibility for its development and promotion.

“Through the library network, the ministry is not only promoting Hindi but regional and other vernacular languages as well,” she said.

Remembering the contribution of Hindi writer late Kamleshwar to Indian literature and who was a member of the samiti, Soni said, “his contribution to Hindi literature and journalism is noteworthy.”

At the meeting, members also stressed the need to promote the languages of the northeastern states.

They suggested that women writers should be encouraged to awaken society against evils like female foeticide.
