Kabul : A key Taliban commander named Zaid was killed in Afghanistan’s Helmand province – a former Taliban stronghold, an official said Wednesday.
“Acting upon intelligence report, the security forces raided Zaid’s hideout in Mashan area of Panjwai district and killed him,” Xinhua quoted Juma Gul as saying.
The commander, whose real name was Noor Mohammad, commanded more than 100 fighters over the past five years against government and NATO-led troops in Kandahar province and his death is a major setback to the Taliban.
