Kolkata: Taking a leaf out of his bitter rival Mamata Banerjee’s book, former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee Saturday called for “parivartan” or change in West Bengal as he launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress regime over a host of issues.
Addressing a rally in Nadia district’s Ranaghat, Bhattacharjee, a member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo, rubbished Banerjee’s repeated claims of rapid all-round development in the state and accused it of bringing anarchy.
“This government keeps on announcing projects, but has a single one materialised so far? All the development is happening only in form of foundation stones. If one uses all the foundation stones a minaret can be constructed,” he said.
Assailing the government on issues like farmers’ suicides, growing unemployment, crimes against women among others, Bhattacharjee said time has come for the people to bring in change.
“Time has come for parivartan, the people will have to bring parivartan. It’s time for the people to decide whether they want raise their voice or allow the anti-socials to continue running the show,” he said.
Bhattacharjee also accused the Banerjee government of “buying out the media”.
“Under the new government nothing has happened, no industry, no infrastructure, no development no jobs, but the media has been singing paeans about her government’s development,” he said, as he went to accuse the Trinamool of unleashing “politics of terror” on the opposition.
