Yemen hands over Al Qaeda suspects to Saudi Arabia

Riyadh : Yemen has handed over eight suspected Al Qaeda militants to Saudi Arabia, officials said Friday.

The move comes as part of joint security operations between the two countries, and the suspects will be tried in accordance with Saudi laws, Xinhua quoted Saudi interior ministry spokesman Mansour Al-Turki as saying.

He added that two of the suspects ran back to Yemen after they were released from prison in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudis are on the hunt for dozens of its citizens joining the terrorist network based in Yemen.

Yemeni authorities handed more than 29 wanted miliatnts to Saudi Arabia in February.

Saudi authorities launched a crackdown on the group’s local branch after a wave of deadly Al Qaeda attacks 2003 and 2006.
