Kuwait : Chairman of the Human Rights Committee at the National Assembly Saleh al-Fadhala appealed in a press statement on Wednesday to US President George Bush to release Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo.
On the occasion of the upcoming visit to Kuwait by President Bush, Al-Fadhala said it was incumbent on Kuwait to invest its close ties with the US government to work for the release of the Kuwaiti detaninees in Guantanamo.
While lauding what the US authorities did in the past when they released some Kuwaiti detainees in Guantanamo, the chairman said ” it is our aspiration that the US authorities release the four remaining Kuwaitis in Guantanamo, in view of the axiom that the US legal system is a paragon of fairness, which it has proven many time over in the past.” By obliging Kuwait with the release of its detainees, the US would be turning a kind eye to a country i.e.Kuwait with which it shares principles of democracy and human rights, said al-Fadhala.
He concluded his press statement by thanking all national and international organziations that have been and still are working for the release of detainees whether in Guantanamo or elsewhere.
