Kochi: The Kerala High Court has issued notices to the Travancore Devaswom Board and the temple advisory committee of the Thrikkadavoor Mahadeva Temple, Kollam, on a suo motu case initiated based on the report stating that a religious outfit is allegedly using the temple for imparting arms training and storage of arms and explosives.
The Devaswom Ombudsman pointed out that he has received a complaint from a native of Thrikkadavoor alleging that the temple is now the centre of arms training of the religious outfit. It was also stated that one of the rivals of the outfit was killed and the temple premises are being used as its hide-out.

The notice was issued on Tuesday.
An administrative officer, on the other hand, has claimed the drill conducted by the religious outfit has been going on in the temple for the past 25 years.
Though the board had also approached the police, no action has been taken yet, apparently as the police fear religious sentiments and hence not taking any action against anyone. Hence, necessary steps may be taken to ensure peace in the region, the report stated.
The complaint also stated that the Temple Advisory Committee is collecting huge amounts from the devotees without proper accounting and the election to the committee has not been conducted for the past five years.
The Chief Vigilance Officer has suggested that the High Court may be approached for obtaining police protection for stopping the activities of the outfit on the temple premises.
The Devaswom Officer also requested the Devaswom Board to approach the High Court, the Ombudsman report stated.
The administrative officer has also submitted a report stating that the drill conducted by the religious outfit has been going on in the temple for the past 25 years and though the police were informed, no action has been taken and there were practical difficulties in banning the outfit in the temple.
