London : British Foreign Office Minister Lord Malloch-Brown has called for political accommodation with pro-Taliban groups fighting the NATO and the British forces on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

In an interview on the BBC’s AM Show that covered the various international hotspots, the British Minister made it clear that the British forces have certainly no intentions or plans to chase and track down Talibans into Pakistan.

“What we’ve got to do is support the Pakistan Army to not just do a better job on the military side but to help them find ways to do what their instinct is anyway, to also find the political accommodation with these groups,” he said in response to a question.

Lord Malloch-Brown noted that the tribal areas are traditionally semi self-governed as an element of autonomy and said this military activity there has disrupted that sense of independence that the tribal leaders enjoy.

“And we’ve somehow got to get the tribal leaders to take responsibility again for delivering law and order for their own people, and kind of to break any links they have with the Taliban and Al Qaeda, and that’s political process as well as a military one.”
