A loan agreement in this respect was signed Monday by ADFC Director-General Ahmed Sari Al Mazrouei for the Abu Dhabi government while Yemeni Ambassador Abdullah Al Madfai signed for his country.

”The water project is of vital importance as it will give a big boost to Yemeni economy by better utilisation of rain and flood water for irrigating an arable area of 32,000 hectares at Hassan Valley. It will deliver water to around 100,000 people for mixed use from farm irrigation to daily routine consumption of water,” he said.

He added that the dam will have storage capacity of 19.5 cu m of water.

”The project is part of a series of projects being carried out by the ADFD in Yemen,” he said.

The Yemeni envoy thanked the UAE for its support for development in Yemen. ”The water project will meet growing demand for water for agricultural purposes,” he added.
