Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday reiterated that his government has not given consent for construction of the Middle Siang hydel project.
“The Assam government has not given any go ahead for the Middle Siang project,” Gogoi said in a statement.
The chief minister said that in spite of the state government’s denial, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti continues to say that the Centre has got the state’s consent for the project.
“Her repeated assertion of receiving the state government’s consent for the project is nothing but an attempt to hoodwink the people, which is an inherent character of the NDA government,” Gogoi said.
Uma Bharti had recently said the central government was planning two projects on the Brahmaputra — which would also help control floods in Assam as well as produce electricity.
“The solution to Brahmaputra’s perennial flow lies in middle Siang… Siang is the answer to floods in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,” the minister had said.
