Assam to have rural employment generation scheme: Gogoi

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday announced his government has decided to launch a rural employment generation scheme, named after Mahatma Gandhi, at a cost of Rs.50,000 crore.

He made the announcement a function organized by the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

Gogoi said that the relevance of the Mahatma’s thought has been increasing in society at present and added that Assam government would also take up steps to install Gandhiji’s statues in all district headquarters and subdivisions so that the young generation are interested towards his teachings and philosophy.

He also said that the state government would also take up steps to include the life and philosophy of Gandhi in different course curricula so that the students can get to learn those and draw inspiration from them.
