A police spokesman said two militants of the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were gunned down in an encounter near Birganj village, 90 km south of capital Agartala.
“There was a counter-insurgency operation going on in the area when security personnel came under fire from the tribal guerrillas and they retaliated, leading to this incident,” police spokesman Nepal Das said.
