New Delhi, (IANS): HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday denied female students were discriminated at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) after reports said they were denied Wi-Fi access and faced other curbs.
“I have collected information from the BHU. There are no restrictions or discrimination there,” Javadekar informed the Lok Sabha in response to a supplementary question during the Question Hour.
According to published reports, female students from the university alleged that they were not allowed access to free Wi-Fi in their rooms while there was no such restriction for male students.
The students also said they were not allowed to eat non-vegetarian food in the campus, make telephone calls after 10 p.m. and wear shorts to the mess.
Women were also not allowed to take part in protests, demonstrations or even political debates.
