Zakir Khan, a leader of the nationalist Awami National Party (ANP), came under attack at Matta town when he was traveling in his car with brother and another colleague, who was also killed in the attack.

Zakir Khan, also deputy mayor of Matta, was opposing the local militants, who are fighting the security forces in Swat valley.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. But government puts the blame of such attacks on militants.

Three other people in the vehicle were injured, police said.

Militants had killed another leader of ANP leader in the same area last week for his support for the government’s crackdown on militants.

The army says it has killed over 300 militants in Swat valley in operation launched in November.
