Hyderabad : Maoist guerrillas in Andhra Pradesh gunned down three people early Saturday accusing them of being police spies.
The attack took place in Borlagunda village in Karimnagar district, about 250 km from here.
According to the police, a group of 15 guerrillas from the Communist Party of India-Maoist entered the village around 2 a.m., picked up the three from their homes and gunned them down after branding them “police informers”.
The three had been associated with the Maoist outfit in the past.
Karimnagar in Telangana region was once a stronghold of the Maoists. But the outfit has suffered several setbacks there in recent years.
Maoist violence in the state has claimed more than 6,000 lives in the last four decades. The police have achieved many successes in anti-Maoist operations in the last two years.
Maoist violence registered a 42 percent decline in 2007 compared to 2006.
