Islamabad : Suspected militants have taken control of a post of security forces in a Pakistan tribal region a day after they had hijacked four trucks, carrying weapons and ammunition, local media reported.
The militants captured check post of security forces near the Kohat, a city some 60 kilometers southwest of Peshawar.
Geo television reported that clashes between the security forces and militants started in the Darra Adam Khel tribal region Friday morning, leaving 34 militants and one soldier dead. Two soldiers were injured.
The forces also captured 2 bunkers of the militants, according to the TV report. The report said that militants also claimed the kidnapping of around 14 soldiers.
The army said on Friday that on 24 January, a group including some ammunition, was intercepted by ‘miscreants’ at Dara Ada m Khel. “4 out of 6 trucks were hijacked by miscreants, ” the statement said.
It said that local political administration made efforts for recovery of these trucks through a jirga, or council of tribal elders.
“With lapse of the time allotted to miscreants for release of the vehicles, Security Forces have started a search and cordon operation for recovery of the hijacked trucks and to clear the area of miscreants,” the statement said.
