Madrid : Unemployment has almost reached 2 million people in Spain in 2007, which represents 8.6 percent after rising three points in the last four years, sources reported on Friday.
A new 117,000 unemployed appeared in 2007 for a total of 1.9 million reported the National Institute of Statistics.
The economically active population in Spain is presently of 22.4 million people, which is equivalent to 59.12 percent of the total of inhabitants.
Of that figure working women represent almost half.
In construction unemployment increased, with losses of 61,500 jobs, 45,400 in services and 38,800 in agriculture.
Talking about the results the Minister of labor Jesus Cabrera admitted it is bad news but added that the situation is exceptional and temporary and will be overcome with economic growth.
