Months after the murder of Faisal P, a convert to Islam, eight more members of his family have converted to Islam. Two of Faisal’s sisters, Subitha and Kavitha, their children and Subitha’s husband Murali have left home and are now learning the basics of Islam at Maunathul Islam Sabha in Ponnani, according to a source. Kavitha’s husband is one of the accused in the murder of Faisal.
Faisal P, alias Aneesh Kumar, son of Ananthan Nair, of Kodinhi, Malappuram was brutally murdered by RSS activists for accepting Islam in November 2016. Two weeks after his murder, Faisal’s mother Meenakshi accepted Islam and adopted Jameela as her new name. Faisal’s wife Priya had converted to Islam and adopted new name Jasna before he was killed. Kodinhi mosque committee is now building a new house for Faisal’s family at his home village. The house is constructed with contribution from local residents.One of the functionaries of Joint Action Committee, which was formed in a bid to ensure justice for Faisal, said the family will be shifted to the new house after the construction works are over.
The mosque committee is also bearing the expenses of Faisal’s children’s educational requirements. The Police had arrested 16 accused in the case including prime accused and RSS Tirur Saha Karyavah Madathil Narayanan, Faisal’s brother in law Vinod and Kottasseri Jayakumar, VHP’s Tirurangadi Taluk secretary. All accused are out on bail.
The all party action committee which was formed after the incident has approached Police seeking protection from anti-social elements who are allegedly trying to disrupt peace in the area in the wake of latest developments. They have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, State Police Chief, District Police Chief and Collector seeking protection for the neighbourhood and Faisal’s family. The committee had also conducted a public convention in Kodinhi a few days ago warning and calling for a vigil on possible untoward incident and provocation. The convention was inaugurated by District Panchayat president A.P Unnikrishnan.
Meanwhile, one of the local activists said Sangh Parivar activists were trying to disrupt peace in the area by hosting flags throughout the streets. “We approached the Police because of the presence of strangers in the area. Some of the accused in the case who are out on bail also active in such activities,” the local activist said. The police said the situation was completely under control. Tirurangadi S I Viswanathan Karayil told TwoCircles.net, “We have received neither information nor complaint about the conversion. The area is calm and we are keeping a tight vigil.”
