Bangkok : Suspected insurgents shot and killed two local residents in Thailand’s southernmost provinces of Yala and Pattani on Wednesday morning, police said.
A 32-year-old government official was killed in a drive-by shooting in Yala province early Wednesday, according to the Bangkok Post’s web news.
In the neighboring Pattani province, a 52-year-old security guard at a car showroom was shot dead in the morning when he was going home from night shift work.
The incidents happened only one day after the Army Chief Anupong Paochinda visited the violence-plagued southern region on Tuesday. The military is considering changing the tactic in the three provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat.
Thailand’s three southernmost provinces have been troubled within surgency-related violence which has claimed more than 2,800 lives since it resumed in early 2004.
