Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee (CLMC), headquartered at Amberpet in Hyderabad has released a statement strongly condemning the arrest of Prof Anand Teltumbde and activist Goutam Navlakha by the NIA under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The statement disregards the “fictitious conspiracy case”, indicating this to be “the ruling BJP’s striding India towards fascism.” It noted that every voice which is opposing BJP’s depraved endeavor is being silenced by abusing the state machinery.
CLMC’s release stated that it cannot be more ironical that a family member of Father of Indian Constitution Dr. B R Ambedkar and a Dalit Empowerment Activist was arrested on his 129th Birth Anniversary which is also celebrated as Constitution Day. It has further reiterated popular activists and media statesmen in its view that the arrests of both leaders are only a “fabricated conspiracy case in Bhima Koregaon violence and is used by the BJP to settle political vendetta and target and lockup its critics.”
Calling it as another reminder that the present regime is not tolerating people’s voice and using all fascist tactics to suppress civil liberties and human rights, the statement echoes that “BJP which is determined to undermine and destroy country’s constitutional institutions and ethos.”
In its end note, CLMC statement has expressed solidarity with Anand Teltumbde and Goutam Navlakha, resonating that it stands with them at such a testing time. In this regard, CLMC had demanded the Government of India “to desist from vendetta politics and stop the witch hunt of its critics and immediately release all political prisoners including Anand Teltumbde and Goutam Navlakha unconditionally.”
