Government spokesman Gholam-Hossein Elham said that Iran’s recent technological and scientific victories should not be cause of concern for others.

Speaking at his weekly press briefing Tuesday, he said, “The government is responsible for progress and development of the country and is not responsible for others’ concern.” The White House gave negative signal to Iran’s scientific progress of launching the research unit (Explorer 1) into the space, terming it as a ballistic missile.

IRNA’s scientific correspondent said that the space centre inaugurated in Iran on Monday is in the satellite category for scientific research and has nothing to do with ballistic missile. “Iran’s space terminal has been designed to send the Islamic Republic’s first homemade research satellite into orbit in the near future.”

Iran’s technological success cannot be cause of concern for anyone who is committed to peace, justice and respect for others in the course of peaceful coexistence, Elham reiterated.

“We have proved that we develop science and technology on the basis of morality and our legal rights. Iran’s entrance into the space technology is aimed at research development,” he stressed.

“We do not accept such concerns,” he said, adding that all world nations are happy with Iran’s development.

White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said that Iran tested a ballistic missile, describing it as unfortunate.

US State Department spokesman Sean McCormack described the launch as “another troubling development.”

“The kinds of technologies and capabilities that are needed in order to launch a space vehicle for orbit are the same kinds of capabilities and technologies that one would employ for long-range ballistic missiles,” he said.
