New Delhi : The crowd at the R. K. Khanna Stadium at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Complex, got to witness a slice of old camaraderie between Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi during India’s doubles rubber of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Group I tie here Saturday.
The two stalwarts were seen raising high fives reminiscent of good old days after Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna won a crucial game.
Team India were in a strong position with Bhupathi and Bopanna pummeling the Uzbeks duo of Denis Itomin and Farukh Dustov in straight sets in the doubles Saturday. India lead the five-match rubber 2-1 with the reverse singles slated for Sunday.
The most successful pair in the Indian tennis that saw a bitter fallout during the Doha Asian Games will be seen pairing together for the Beijing Olympics in August.
“The camaraderie between us will always be there. There is nothing unusual about it. It is sad that I couldn’t play with Mahesh in the Davis Cup. I am really looking forward to the Olympics,” he said.
