Istanbul : Turkish authorities said they foiled an explosion that targeted Istanbul city, Tuesday.
According to Khabar Turk website, the Turkish intelligence sent to Istanbul security department a letter indicating the rebel Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) plans to blow up a gas station in the city on the anniversary of the arrest of the party’s leader Abdullah Ocalan, who is jailed in Turkey since 1999.
The website said the intelligence authorities warned that the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party are also targeted.
It added that the Turkish Police took the warnings seriously and increased security precautions around the targeted areas.
Last September, Turkish authorities announced deactivating explosives that were aboard a bus that was parked in a parking area in central Ankara.
It is believed that the attack was planned to coincide with the sixth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States.
Recently, several Turkish cities witnessed attacks and Turkish authorities accuse Kurdish rebels of being behind them.
The last attack occurred in early January near a bus station in Diyarbakir city, south east Turkey, and wounded five people.
