Kabul : Three Afghan policemen were killed when Taliban militants ambushed their patrol in western Afghanistan on Friday, officials said Friday.
Provincial Governor Ghulam Dastagir Azad told journalists two more policemen were kidnapped by the assailants and the whereabouts of the kidnapped men is not known.
The governor said a search had been launched in areas adjacent to the Helmand province, which is considered the hotbed of insurgency.
Separately, unidentified armed men killed a cleric in the southern province of Helmand.
Mahmood Agha, the religious scholar, was killed after he was kidnapping from his house by militants, police said.
The Taliban has not commented so far.
