Asharq Alawsat newspaper quoted Ahmed Yousef, an adviser for Ismail Haneya, deposed prime minister of Hamas government in Gaza, as saying that the leaked information includes “the movement, the places of residence and the sorts of cars used by Damascus-based Hamas leaders.”

As a result of the information, Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal has recently been targeted by “several assassination attempts,” Yousef said, adding Mashaal’s deputy, Mussa Abu Marzouq, was also among the leaked information.

However, Yousef refused to specify to which country the intelligence organizations belonged.

On Feb. 12, Imad Mughniyah, a senior militant leader of the Lebanese Shiite Hezbollah group, was assassinated in a car bombing in Damascus.

Commenting on the possible fallout of the assassination, Yousef said it “won’t affect on the spirits of Hamas leaders” based there.
