Like other countries, Iran has the right to have a peaceful nuclear program based on international laws and regulations in a bid to meet its energy demands, Akhoundzadeh added.

He stressed that the latest report released by the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mohamed ElBaradei, did point out that the Iranian nuclear program was not diverted for any other purposes.

Akhoundzadeh termed “ridiculous” weapons of mass destruction allegations against Iran by certain western countries.

Based on the latest IAEA report, Iran’s enrichment program has civilian objectives. In addition, the report stressed that Tehran was ready to cooperate and display transparency on its nuclear program, Akhoundzadeh added.

Unfortunately, some countries like the US are not interested in finding an acceptable solution to Iran’s nuclear program, the envoy said.

The IAEA report proved the baseless claims by the US and several of its allies, he added.

Akhoundzadeh called the report by the UN nuclear watchdog an “important victory” for Iran.
