Islamabad : British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said Pakistan should return to the fold of Commonwealth and resume its role as an important member.
Talking to President Pervez Musharraf on telephone Tuesday, the British PM congratulated him on the successful holding of general election in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister said he would be sending his Foreign Minister David Miliband to Pakistan soon to discuss matters of mutual interest and situation in the region.
President Musharraf told the British Prime Minister that he has fulfilled the commitment made to the nation by holding free, fair and transparent election, peacefully.
The President said, now the process was moving forward for convening the sessions of the national and provincial assemblies and formation of new governments.
The President said it will further strengthen the democratic tradition and institutions in Pakistan.
