The ECP on Tuesday received lists of independent candidates who joined political parties, said the report.

The sources in the ECP said that after receiving the lists of candidates joining various parties the ECP would be able to allocate reserved seats to them in proportion with their strength in respective assemblies.

There are all together 372 seats in the National Assembly out of which 70 are reserved for women and minorities.

Following the issuance of official results of the Feb. 18 general elections, the independent lawmakers-elect were given three days to join parties of their choice.

The ECP formally notified on Saturday the final results of the general elections. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) emerged as the largest party in the National Assembly with 87 seats, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with 68 seats.
