Madrid : The Spanish general elections are developing normally on Sunday all over the country, to elect 350 parliament members, 208 senators, and the political force that will govern during the next four years.
The day goes by peacefully in Madrid, on a sunny day with temperatures that will reach 15 degrees Celsius, at the end of this winter season, according to the weather forecast.
A short visit to different areas of the capital and its surroundings allowed verifying a peaceful atmosphere, marked by noticeable attendance to the polling stations, which opened at 09:00 local time.
An hour later, government President, leader and candidate of the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Party), Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero voted at a polling station in Madrid.
The head of government told press he was confident that a large part of the electorate would participate, “because democracy is stronger if all citizens go to the polls.”
Except some minor incidents, the vote is developing normally, said State Communication Secretary Fernando Moraleda and Interior Undersecretary Justo Zambrana, both in charge of rendering the official reports to the media.
At 10:30, local time, 99.99 percent of the polling stations were already working.
The Spanish electoral register is composed of 35,072,209 people Of them, 2,205,132 of them live abroad, and 1,711,776 youths will vote for the first time.
