Kozhikode (Kerala) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday asked the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)-led Kerala government to give a detailed report on politically motivated crimes in the state during its rule.
P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, a former state chief of the BJP, made the demand at a press conference here.
“After the Left Democratic Front (LDF) came into power, CPI-M was involved in most cases of political violence in the state,” Pillai claimed.
The clashes erupted between the activists of the CPI-M and the BJP-RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) March 5 in the state, when a RSS leader was attacked in Thalassery town. The clashes continued over the next four days leaving seven dead.
Pillai urged the government to constitute a special police team to inquire into the kind of weapons and explosives used in the violence. The team should also probe the role of people from outside the state, he said.
Reacting to media reports that it was the statements of former BJP national president M. Venkaiah Naidu on Kerala situation that resulted in the attack on CPI-M headquarters in Delhi, Pillai said these allegations were baseless. “I was with him while he made those statements,” he said.
According to Pillai, Naidu had asked what would have been the fate of CPI-M if BJP supporters, who are concerned about the happenings in Kerala, reacted the same way against CPI-M elsewhere in the country. And Naidu had also cautioned that such reaction should never happen, Pillai added.
