New Delhi : Both houses of parliament were adjourned Tuesday following pandemonium over the reported attacks on Communists in various parts of the country.
The Lok Sabha was first adjourned at 12.25 p.m. after verbal clashes between MPs belonging to the Left and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Five minutes after the house reconvened at 12.35 p.m., it was adjourned again till 1.30 p.m.
Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee disallowed Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Basudeb Acharya from raising the issue, saying that it was a state matter and could not be raised in the Lok Sabha.
But Acharya insisted on raising the matter, to which BJP and Shiv Sena MPs protested. Unable to control the situation, Chatterjee adjourned the house.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned for 10 minutes at 12.25 p.m. over the same issue.
Earlier when the Lok Sabha met, Acharya had given a notice for suspension of question hour but the speaker had refused to take it up and allowed the question hour to run.
“I am appealing to you from the bottom of my heart, for the sake of this institution, remain on your seat and allow the house to function,” the speaker told the MPs who were trying to disrupt the proceedings.
