New Delhi : There is no proposal to deploy street dogs in the forces, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Sri Prakash Jaiswal told the Lok sabha Tuesday.
“The breeds of dogs that can be trained and deployed in the forces for sniffing and other work are German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, St. Bernard (for snow rescue), Alsatian, Labrador and Doberman,” Jaiswal said in a written reply.
Some sections of the media had reported recently that the government was considering training and deploying street dogs, as they were as efficient and intelligent as the foreign breeds. Jaiswal’s reply has put to rest controversies about the possibility of a change in policy.
