Strike not to affect Ahmedabad airport, says official

Ahmedabad : The proposed strike by the employees of the Airports Authority of India from midnight Tuesday night will not affect operations at Ahmedabad airport, according to airport authorities here.

“We will invoke, in case of strike, our contingency plan and operations will be perfectly normal,” B.P. Bhagat, airport director, told IANS.

However, according to a travel agency, Indian Airlines operations could be affected. The airline has two flights from the city in the morning, bound for Mumbai and Delhi.

J.N. Rao, who runs a travel agency, said that the airline has hinted about a possible effect on services to travel agents.

Jet Airways operates three flights from the city, Jetlite has one, Spice Jet whose base is Ahmedabad has three flights, Go Air and Deccan Air have one flight each. King Fisher has two flights, he said.

Jet Airways has informed agents that their operations will be normal. There has been no cancellation of tickets because of the impending strike, he added.
