New Delhi : India has earned the dubious distinction of registering the second highest number of road accidents in a year, according to World Road Statistics (WRS) 2007 data.
Presenting the WRS 2007 report in the Rajya Sabha, which provides data for 2005, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways K.H. Muniyappa said the total number of people killed in road accidents was 94,985, next only to China where 98,738 people killed.
The number of deaths in road accidents in Delhi alone was 2,169, said the minister.
