Five injured in blast on Mumbai train

Mumbai : Five people were injured due to a blast on a local train here Saturday afternoon. The police said it was not a terror attack.

The blast occurred when the train was pulling into Sion station on the central railway line. It is suspected to be due to either a short circuit or a gas cylinder blast.

Railway Commissioner R.K. Sharma told IANS: “The explosion is not due to any explosive but due to a short circuit or a cylinder blast.”

Three people suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Sion government hospital. Sharma said the situation has been bought under control.

“All the passengers were asked to come out of the train and a complete search was conducted,” Sharma said. Although local train services were halted for a while after the blast, the services have commenced again, he assured.

The injured have been identified as Paresh Mhatre, Nasimulla, Shahbuddin, Nilesh Patel and Santosh Shinde.
