Islamabad : An Anti-Terrorism court on Saturday handed over a suspect of twin suicide bombing in the rally of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto to police for questioning till March 27, court officials said.
Over 140 people were killed and around 250 injured in suicide attacks in welcoming procession of Benazir Bhutto when she returned Karachi on October 12 when at the end of her eight-year exile.
Qari Saifullah Akhtar was produced in the court under tight security after he was brought to Karachi from Lahore by plane.
The investigative police officer told the court that the police want to interrogate Qari Saifullah in the case of Benazir procession attack case.
The officer also presented last book of Benazir Bhutto in the court in which she had mentioned that Qari Saifullah had hatched a conspiracy to overthrow her government in 1995.
Qari Saifullah Akhtar had been extradited by the United Arab Emirates in August 2004 and was languishing in Karachi central jail.
He was freed months ago after pressure from the Supreme Court, according to his lawyer Hashmat Habib.
Qari Saifullah was re-arrested in Lahore last month.
His name was surfaced in 1995 for the first time when a group of army men was arrested for conspiring to assassinate Benazir Bhutto.
He was arrested in connect with the plot and had been in prison for some time.
