Sania-Mattek advance to semi finals at Indian Wells

Indian Wells, (California) : Sania Mirza overcame her troublesome wrist to keep her challenge alive in the $2.1 million Pacific Life Open as she and her American doubles partner Bethanie Mattek bludgeoned their way past Yung Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei to enter the semi finals.

The seventh seeded Sania-Mattek duo mowed down the second seeded Chan-Chuang pair in a closely fought match downing them in straight sets, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 in the quarterfinals Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Indian challenge in the men’s doubles has ended. Sixth seeded Mahesh Bhupathi and his Bahamas partner Mark Knowles who had a fine run this year winning two successive doubles titles this season, were shown the door by the fourth seeded Israeli pair Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram beating them 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
