Gurgaon : Shih Huei-Ju, the 29-year-old Chinese Taipei professional golfer and the winner of the Hong Kong Ladies Masters last year, created the first flutter on the inaugural day of the DLF Women’s Indian Open 2008, when she sank a hole-in-one at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurgaon here Wednesday.
Shih achieved her feat on the par-3 eighth hole using a 9-iron. This is her second visit to the DLF Women’s Indian Open after her 17th place finish last year. Although she turned pro back in 2003, Shih had not found the going easy on the competitive Ladies Tour and finally came into her own with the win in Hong Kong last year.
Her feat makes her the first claimant to the cash prize of Rs.50,000 sponsored by Sudhir Gensets. The amount would be distributed among all such achievers in the course of the tournament.
She finished the round with a one-under 71 and was lying tied second, one shot behind leader Phatlum Pornanong of Thailand.
